To avoid more dangerous climate change, we need to shut down carbon-intensive industries. Many of these industries and power stations are major employers in regional communities, such as Gladstone, the Hunter Valley, and the La Trobe Valley and will be impacted by the transition.
If the Government doesn’t properly plan for this transition, many workers could be forced into unemployment. And for those who are already unemployed or underemployed in these towns, it will be even harder to find paid work.
That’s why ACOSS is standing with organisations like the ACTU, Next Economy, Climate Council, The Australia Institute, First Nations Clean Energy Network and many others in calling for a National Energy Transition Authority to properly plan for the transition and development of these communities.
Will you help show the government that there is strong community support by signing the petition calling for a National Energy Transition Authority?

PETITION TEXT
Dear Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen,
We urge you to establish an independent and properly resourced National Energy Transition Authority to coordinate a fair transition process for workers in carbon-intensive industries and impacted communities, including people already experiencing poverty and inequality within those communities.
The process should include a regional economic development approach co-designed with workers and the community.
Signed,
