Cassandra Goldie to outline ACOSS Budget proposals: 10.30am

25 February 2016

Who: Dr Cassandra Goldie, ACOSS CEO
When: 10.30am Tuesday, 16 February 2016
Where: ACOSS Office, Level 2, 619 Elizabeth Street, Redfern NSW

ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie will outline the peak community sector body’s proposals for the 2016 Federal Budget, outlining tax and budget savings of $9.5 billion from 1 July 2017 and growing over time, with $6 billion for vital investment in crucial services.

Dr Goldie will call on the Federal Government to set a new course to sustain the budget and the essential services the community needs and values, starting with reform of unfair tax breaks and loopholes in negative gearing, capital gains tax, superannuation and the use of family and company trusts.

ACOSS also recommends the reallocation of savings to address current gaps in areas of critical need, including affordable housing and community services and to address major inadequacies in our safety net, such as unemployment payments and rent assistance.

Dr Goldie will urge the Government to build on the common ground reached in last year’s National Reform Summit among business groups, unions and the community sector, and use the upcoming budget to set the direction for balanced and fair reform.
