Community Sector COP26 Messaging and Social Media Toolkit

Join us and the chorus of other domestic and international voices over the next two weeks of the United Nations Climate conference in speaking out for #FairFastClimateAction. Our sector has an important role to play in speaking out about why our communities need fair policies that reduce pollution this decade. Speaking up now helps set the tone for what we expect of all politicians as we head to a federal election.

  • At #COP26 the US, UK and EU are committing to reduce emissions by 50% or higher by 2030. The federal Government has refused to increase its 24-26% emission reduction target and is instead delaying action until 2050. Australia needs to do its fair share to avoid more dangerous climate change. #FairFastClimateAction
  • People experiencing financial & social disadvantage are impacted by climate change first, worse and longest. The Federal Government’s focus on technology & markets to achieveĀ  net zero by 2050 leaves them behind. We need a plan that cuts emissions and improves the lives of people facing disadvantage through #FairFastClimateAction #COP26
  • Public funds should not be used to subsidise fossil fuels & locking communities into jobs where there is a declining demand for polluting and costly technologies. Workers and communities should be included & supported to lead their future out of declining fossil fuel industries.
  • We need strong emission cuts combined with a fair and inclusive plan to support workers and industries transition, strengthen regional communities, and targeted policies that also tackle poverty and inequality. #FairFastClimateAction this decade, not by 2050.
  • We need a climate change plan that delivers benefits to the communities who need it most, for example by investing in energy efficiency and solar in low-income homes to reduce bills, create jobs and cut emissions. #FairFastClimate Action #COP26
  • Without a focus on how we can help people on the lowest incomes, workers and communities transition to a clean energy future, Australia cannot meet net zero emissions targets at the rate required #FairFastClimateAction #COP26
