Supporting disability in the next decade

People with disabilities are neither sharing the wealth nor participating in the making of the wealth of Australia. A recent report released by Price Waterhouse Coopers cited Australia as being 17 out of 17 for poverty and 21 out of 29 for employment of people with disabilities out of comparative countries. This session will examine major policy reform in Australia, in particular the National Disability Strategy and the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It will analyse how these reforms, if properly implemented, will contribute to the growth of wealth in Australia. However, for this to occur, people with disabilities and their representative organisations must be in the driver's seat.
