Employment & Income Support

Our policy development focuses on policies to reduce unemployment

Our policy development focuses on policies to reduce unemployment, especially long term unemployment, employment assistance to improve the job prospects of the most disadvantaged jobless people, and adequate incomes, better work incentives and reasonable activity requirements for social security recipients.

ACOSS has supported increases in payments for single pensioners and advocated similar increases in payments for unemployed people students and sole parents to reduce poverty among those people most affected by the economic downturn.

We are calling for a substantial investment by the Government in a paid work experience program for long term unemployed people to give them experience and training in regular employment and thereby improve their future job prospects.
