The Advocacy Support Service supports birth families of children and young people involved with Child and Youth Protection Services (CYPS) by providing information and capability development as they navigate the Out of Home Care and protection systems. Volunteers are required to attend meetings and court as a support person for families. Volunteers will take a neutral and non-participatory role in meetings and court, however will be responsible for providing feedback to support the skill development of families. Recording of contact and interactions with families in Client Case Management system is required in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support the engagement and empowerment of clients as determined in consultation with the service manager
  • Provision of emotional support while remaining neutral on issues discussed
  • To maintain accurate record of client contact and observations
  • Maintain regular communication with Red Cross supervisor
  • Attend Red Cross induction, relevant training, and support meetings
  • Respect the rights of clients to confidentiality and privacy
  • Work within the Red Cross Code of Conduct
