National Close the Gap Day – Power through Partnership

Thursday 22 March 2012 - Thursday 22 March 2012
Across Australia

Close the Gap is an Indigenous-led coalition campaign consisting of more than 40 Indigenous and non-Indigenous health, human rights & community organisations. The campaign's goal is to achieve health equality between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians within a generation. National Close the Gap Day is an annual event which enables people and organisations across Australia to demonstrate their support for achieving Indigenous health equality through hosting a National Close the Gap Day event in their home, community, workplace or school. This active show of support is extremely important and effective in demonstrating to the Government a strong public desire for action on this issue to hold them to account with regards to their public commitments to take action to close the health and life expectancy gap.

The campaign enjoys bi-partisan support both Federally and in every mainland Australian State.

This year, we had a record number of health organisation participate in National Close the Gap Day.

National Close the Gap Day is a great opportunity for hospitals and health organisations to both show their active support for Indigenous health but also to bring their community together and showcase their existing programs and commitments in this area.
